Effects of maternal mental health on prenatal movement profiles in twins and singletons

Aim Prenatal experiences, including maternal stress, depression and anxiety, form crucial building blocks affecting the maturation of foetal central nervous system. Previous research has examined movements without considering effects mental health factors critical for healthy development. The aim this is to assess on twin compared with singleton movement profiles. Method We coded touch head in 56 ultrasound scans, from a prospective opportunity sample 30 mothers pregnancy (mean gestational age 27.8 weeks 27.2 twins). At scan appointment, participants completed questionnaires assessing their anxiety. Results Maternal increased self-touch significantly. In twins, stress significantly decreased other touch. affected twins more than singletons, decreasing frequency Conclusion These results indicate that might have an impact types body schemata formed utero, pregnancies.
